How Bedroom Furniture Can Create a Romantic Retreat
It’s funny that a place we spend 1/3 of our lives in is after just an afterthought when we decorate our home. Perhaps it’s because it’s just a bedroom or there’s a door that can be closed to shut it off from the prying eyes of visitors.
But with a few changes and some thoughtful design, you can turn your sleeping space into a romantic retreat with lovely furnishings, exquisite bedding and the perfect lighting for late night interludes.
To create the right mood for your bedroom, follow these helpful design tips:
- Update your furniture. If your nightstands, dressers, stools, bed frame and lights are a collection of odds and ends, change them. A singular design, whether it’s modern furniture, contemporary designs or traditional pieces bring a sense of cohesiveness and peace to a bedroom. Mismatched furniture creates visual stress. Get rid of the stress of mismatches and replace it with a bedroom furniture set that not only matches, but matches your personal tastes as well.
- Light the way. Try to avoid overhead lighting when creating a romantic retreat. It’s just too harsh and casts unflattering shadows, flattening the space. Instead, go with lamps on the nightstands, floor lamps or spot lighting over the bed. If you use a light switch to control lighting, be sure you get ones with dimmers. They’ll help you get in the mood.
- The bed is your main focus. Remember, a bedroom is for sleeping and rest as well as romance. An iron bed frame or the lack of a headboard doesn’t exactly promote a romantic mood or a sound sleep. If you’re not into headboards, that’s O.K. You can opt to go with a stylish and timeless platform bed. There are even Japanese style modern platform beds that seem to float in midair, promoting relaxation and tranquility.
- Color your world. If you own your home or if your landlord doesn’t mind, pull out some paint and get rid of the white walls. Go for a warm color palette of soft tones that make the room look rich and romantic. If you’ve already selected your bedding, pick out one of the lesser colors and have it matched at your local paint store. This will tie the room together beautifully.
- Accessorize liberally. Add photos to your nightstands and dressers. Get some throw pillows and load the bed up with them. Get some scented candles and place them around the room (don’t forget a lighter).
Finally, be creative with your master bedroom furniture or any bedroom furniture in your home. Make it reflect your own tastes and personality. There is no right and wrong when it comes to creating a bedroom that is just for you. It’s the one place in your home where virtually anything goes.
